Forum Retreat

River City. Late Hours.

Belgrade sits where the Sava and Danube meet, bringing together a historic fortress, distinctive neighbourhoods, serious food, river life, and some of Europe's most energetic evenings. For YPO and EO forums, it offers a city with enough character and variety.

Serbia

Serbia sits at the meeting point of Central and Southeast Europe, with a landscape that moves from the Danube and fertile plains in the north to wine regions, forests, mountains, and historic towns further south. Four distinct seasons change what works best throughout the year, while food, wine, rakija, hospitality, and a long history of different cultural influences give the country a strong identity beyond its capital.

Belgrade

Belgrade is built around the meeting of the Sava and Danube, with Kalemegdan and the fortress overlooking the confluence. Historic Dorćol, Knez Mihailova, Zemun, contemporary riverfront districts, restaurants, bars, galleries, and cultural institutions give the city several very different sides within a relatively compact area. For a forum, that means the setting can change repeatedly without the logistics taking over.

What is unique in Belgrade for a forum

Belgrade combines things that are rarely found together in one European capital. A forum can meet in the morning, take a private boat onto the Sava and Danube, explore the fortress, dine around contemporary Serbian cooking, move into a completely different neighbourhood, and still have one of the city's strongest characteristics ahead of them: the evening. It feels established and energetic without feeling over-programmed for visitors.

Stay

SQUARE NINE BELGRADE
A 45-room design hotel in Belgrade's historic centre, Square Nine sits close to Dorćol, Knez Mihailova, and Kalemegdan. Designed by Isay Weinfeld, its timber interiors, original mid-century furniture, courtyard, restaurants, and wellness facilities give it a distinctly residential feel. Its smaller scale works particularly well for forums that want an intimate base within walking distance of the old city and rivers
THE BRISTOL BELGRADE
Originally opened in 1912 and restored for a new chapter, The Bristol combines historic Belgrade architecture with contemporary rooms and suites, restaurants, spa, and event spaces. Its location close to the Sava, Belgrade Waterfront, and the historic centre gives a forum a larger full-service alternative while keeping several different parts of the city within easy reach.

Dining and drinks

Belgrade's food scene moves easily between traditional Serbian cooking, contemporary restaurants, chef-led menus, riverfront dining, wine, and rakija. Serbia also has a growing modern wine culture alongside native grape varieties and a long tradition of fruit distillation. For a forum, that gives us room to make each meal different rather than simply moving between versions of the same restaurant experience.

Action and adrenaline

The Sava and Danube make the rivers part of the experience rather than simply a backdrop. Private speedboats, kayaking, cycling, and water activities can sit alongside driving, shooting, and other experiences in and around the city. What we use depends on the group and season, but Belgrade gives us enough variety to build active time into the retreat without requiring a full day away from the city.

Nightlife and entertainment

Belgrade has a genuine late-night culture rather than a nightlife district created mainly for visitors. River venues, cocktail bars, live music, clubs, late restaurants, and more traditional Serbian evenings all coexist across the city. We can move between contemporary Belgrade and something much more local, or build a private evening around music, dinner, and drinks without following the standard nightlife route.

Recovery and culture

The quieter side of Belgrade can move between Kalemegdan and the fortress, museums, galleries, historic Dorćol, Zemun, river walks, spas, and the city's different layers of architecture. The Nikola Tesla Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art provide very different cultural directions, while the rivers and fortress give the group space to slow the pace without leaving the centre.

Enrichment

Belgrade's business story is broader than the industries most visitors associate with Serbia. Technology, engineering, food and beverage, design, creative businesses, and specialist producers give us different directions depending on the interests of the forum. A private visit with a founder, owner, or specialist can take the group inside a Serbian company or production environment and turn the conversation towards building, manufacturing, brand, growth, or operating from this part of Europe.
