Old Town. New Conversations.
Tallinn combines a medieval Old Town with excellent restaurants, cocktail bars, unique experiences, and Nordic sauna culture. Its compact size makes it particularly well suited to YPO and EO forums.
Riga combines a grand Art Nouveau centre with a compact Old Town, serious dining, and nightlife that still feels local. Distances are short, which keeps a YPO and EO forum moving as one group.
Latvia sits on the Baltic Sea in Northern Europe, with Riga at its centre and forests, coastline, historic towns, and the Gauja Valley all within reach. Four distinct seasons give the country a different character throughout the year, from long summer evenings and the Baltic coast to autumn colours, winter activities, and spring outdoors. This makes it easy to shape a forum retreat around the season rather than force the same programme year-round.
Riga is Latvia's capital and the largest city in the Baltics, with a historic centre shaped by medieval streets, grand boulevards, and one of Europe's most distinctive collections of Art Nouveau architecture. Restaurants, cocktail bars, markets, galleries, and cultural venues sit within a relatively compact centre, giving YPO and EO forums plenty of choice while keeping the retreat easy to navigate.
Riga gives a forum several very different settings within one retreat. The Old Town and Art Nouveau district provide the city backdrop, while Jūrmala brings almost 25 kilometres of white-sand Baltic coastline within easy reach. Add Latvia's sauna culture, Michelin-recognised dining, Riga Central Market, and the forests and adrenaline experiences around Sigulda, and the programme can move well beyond a standard European city break.
Riga has developed a serious dining scene, with Michelin-starred restaurants, chef-led tasting menus, modern Latvian cooking, wine bars, and strong cocktail venues. Private dinners can move from contemporary restaurants to more historic settings, while Riga Central Market offers a completely different way to explore local produce and food culture.
Riga works well as a base for activities that go far beyond the city centre. Groups can head towards Sigulda for bobsleigh, the Aerodium wind tunnel, ziplining and outdoor experiences, while closer to Riga there are driving, shooting, karting, and seasonal water activities. The mix changes with the time of year, which gives us different directions for summer and winter retreats.
Riga has several different evening scenes within a small area. Old Town mixes bars and late-night venues, the Art Nouveau district has wine and cocktail bars in a more polished setting, and other parts of the centre bring live music and more informal nightlife. Private venues, rooftop drinks, and curated bar routes give groups plenty of ways to shape an evening without committing to one style of nightlife.
Riga's slower side can move between Latvian pirts and spa experiences, Art Nouveau architecture, galleries, museums, the Central Market, and walks through the historic centre. Jūrmala adds the Baltic coast, pine forest, spa culture, and long beach, while the Latvian National Opera and Ballet provides another direction for groups that want a cultural evening.
For forums that want an enrichment element, Riga gives us access to a strong mix of founders, designers, makers, technology businesses, and creative industries. Rather than adding a formal business session, we can build in a private visit or conversation around a company, workshop, studio, or individual whose story fits the interests of the forum.
